Company history
Since some years chocolate has become a kind of luxury food. Thanks to the effort of brilliant chocolatiers, chocolate lovers all over the world demand a high quality of their favourite candy. For chocolate manufacturers, it is a constantly rising challenge to satisfy these needs.
Two young entrepreneurs from the region around Bonn, Germany, decided to face this challenge. It was – and is – their ambition to produce a chocolate that satisfies today’s demands of a fine chocolate but also the standard of a modern, mobile lifestyle. The German chocolate market at the time of the company’s formation already had a lot of high quality products. But these often challenged the consumer and he had to concentrate hard to taste all the different flavours.
Kai Schauer and Dennis Kretzing preferred the classic chocolate bar because of its convenience. But they did not want to create another usual bar with sugar cream filling. What they wanted was a product with a full-bodied chocolaty cocoa-taste that can be enjoyed everywhere. Their chocolate had to be compact, of excellent cocoa quality enriched with clearly visible and tastable ingredients. The chocolate should be convenient, comfortable to eat and one-of-a-kind.
This clear ambition helped the two entrepreneurs to make a life-changing decision: they quit their jobs and started to realize their idea of a good chocolate. At the ISM 2006 in Cologne they celebrated the birthday of their chocolate creation – the shokomonk.
The shokomonk is a compact chocolate bar in more than 30 flavours. The ingredients are always visible in the chocolate and they can always be perfectly tasted at the first bite. Some of the flavours are quite exceptional like poppy seed, ginger, jalapeño-chili and strawberry-pepper.
The high quality of the shokomonk products expresses itself in carefully chosen cocoa beans. Shokomonk’s cocoa comes from well-known origins like Ecuador and is directly imported for shokomonk. In Germany the cocoa beans are roasted, conched for a long time and finally processed according to the highest standards.
In this process, delicacies come into being with a cocoa percentage from 31 % for white chocolate up to 77 % for extrabitter chocolate. Nobody would have thought but the white chocolate bars created a furore from the beginning on. They convince lovers even of dark chocolate with their high percentage of cocoa butter and their high quality.
Shortly after the launch the shokomonk had his place in the German chocolate market. The convenient bars and the delicious flavours proved to meet the needs of almost every situation. It does not matter if you are at home or on the road, if you drink whine or coffee, if it is summer or winter – the shokomonk provides the right chocolate for all these occasions.
The lover of good chocolate now can enjoy his chocolate bar independent of time and place – and simultaneously bear witness of the art of living. Shokomonk is lifestyle.
Today, the shokomonk cannot only be found throughout Germany, but also in countries like Austria, Italy, Great Britain and Sweden. Who wants to taste the shokomonk should come to one of the many fairs, events and tasting the shokomonk attends to and get his piece of chocolate.
